My Dear Brethren,
I have been fortunate in the past 15 years not only of becoming a Freemason, but of also having the unique opportunity to work for an international leadership and management organization. The many practices and teachings I have learned from colleagues over the years in my work environment, I put into practice while officer and Worshipful Master of my lodge. Looking back over the many challenges and obstacles I have faced in my years as officer, Worshipful Master, and leader in my lodge, it was these practices that helped me overcome those challenges and obstacles and in my mind what singularly stands out as having given me the most success. It continues to be essential in the difficult tasks that seem to come with each New Year, and I find other Brothers continually asking me how I dealt with the complex challenges of running and facilitating change in not only a 100 year old conventional lodge, but also helping create and charter a new and very unique traditional observance style lodge which was not only the first new lodge in my state in over 25 years, it was the first of its kind ever in our state and one of only half a dozen similar in the United States…This is not just beneficial to someone wanting to start a new lodge, this is actually more beneficial to the new officer who finds he will soon be “in charge” of his lodge and all that entails, as well as the frustrated Brother who is trying to lead and effect necessary changes in a lodge that is resistant to those changes. I’ve spent some time over the past few months coming up with what I believe are the core competencies, skills, pitfalls, tips and tricks that have over the years proven so effective and beneficial to me in successfully accomplishing those same tasks I just mentioned, and that I believe can also be assimilated by and greatly beneficial to others seeking to do the same. I currently have this structured as a 6 part “Course” but may add another section or two here and there when I get a little deeper into things and also when I start to get feedback from others as to what other specific challenges they are seeing that I may have some insight to.
In keeping with our tradition here at TSS I will be posting these “courses” in the Lodge Officer’s area of the Blue Lodge Restricted Section of our forums. Course #1 You are going to be the leader…Now what?! is there now. If you do not have access to this section please contact an admin or post up a thread with your credentials to gain entrance.
Below is an outline of what will be posted over the next few days/week.
May the GAOTU smile on your endeavors and grant you success as he has smiled on and granted mine.
Yours in Brotherhood
