Brothers,
I presented a powerpoint presentation in lodge last night on the various forms of predominantly African-American Freemasonry in the US. There were about 30 brothers in attendance from my lodge and I was fortunate to have 2 brothers from 2 different Prince Hall lodges in attendance as well. I covered 3 distinctions of African-American Freemasonry i.e. the recognized Prince Hall Affliated, the Prince Hall Origin and the non Prince Hall (clandestine, irregular, unrecognized) groups in NY. Unfortunately I had been a member of a clandestine group about 12 years ago before finding out and finally becoming regular this December. I wanted to explain to the brothers my experiences and show how we all need to be educated on these distinctions especially as many brothers may not know that all African American Masons aren't Prince Hall nor are all Prince Hall Masons African American. All of the brothers told me that they were impressed and bowled over by the research, the very detailed information, my answers in the Q&A and the pictures. With permission of the WM, I even did a show and tell to the group of the subtle differences in a few DG, penalties and GHS. I almost got into trouble because when the talk was over, I took up a stray handout off a chair only to have an older PM chide me for taking away his handout that he wanted to save and study...lol Today, the Prince Hall brothers have asked me to come give the same talk at their lodge in March and they plan on inviting a number of other PHA lodges to attend as well. Why am I really proud is that they felt genuinely welcomed at my lodge and have extended the invitation for us to visit them which my lodge brothers intend on seriously doing. This may not be a big deal but I'm just warmed that while we acknowledge that we are in amity, I'm glad that we are spreading that brotherly love by physically visiting and learning about each other. Sorry for the long post, it just felt really good to be in that room last night. |

It is only in powerpoint format right now. I'm working on the formal written paper for those interested in reading. Of course with the powerpoint, you wouldn't be able get a sense of my spoken presentation but pm me your email addy so I can send to those interested in seeing it as the pdf is too large to post

I just thought about this as an option. Tell me what you all think.
I could look into hosting a gotomeeting or webex webinar if folks are interested in hearing and seeing the presentation as a group. I believe that the gotowebinar has a free 30 day trial so if there is that great an interest, we could schedule a date and time (30-45 min) that would work so brothers can log on to the webinar online and dial in a toll free number to hear the audio and discuss. sorry it's the tech in me thinking out loud.... |
